January 11, 2008 - While the carnage continues in Gaza, rest of the world is busy with other problems and lot of the world governments simple don’t care about the genocide in Gaza. The main culprits are U.S, British and the Muslim World Governments. Israeli writer, author and former professor of Haifa University Ilan Pappe, sums it up eloquently,
“I know that even the killing of hundreds of innocent Palestinians would not be enough to produce such a shift in the Western public opinion; it is even more unlikely that the crimes committed in Gaza would move the European governments to change their policy towards Palestine. It seems that even the most horrendous crimes, such as the genocide in Gaza, are treated as discrete events, unconnected to anything that happened in the past and not associated with any ideology or system. In this new year, we have to try to realign the public opinion to the history of Palestine and to the evils of the Zionist ideology as the best means of both explaining genocidal operations such as the current one in Gaza and as a way of pre-empting worse things to come.”
New U.S President-elect, Obama, during his visit to Israel in July 2008 said,
“If somebody was sending rockets into my house where my two daughters [Malia, 10 and Sasha, 7] sleep at night, I’m going to do everything in my power to stop that. I would expect Israelis to do the same thing.”
The Israelis are doing exactly what the U.S has done to perfection over the last half a century, and that is massive civilian killings in different parts of the world. A few million in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, a few hundred thousand in Iraq and Afghanistan and many more countries also appear on the long list of victims of U.S hegemony. Israel is merely doing what it has been doing for the past few decades and that is a ‘Holocaust’ of Palestinian people. According to Axis of Logic columnist, Gali Hassan,
“On Saturday 27 December 2008, U.S.-supplied Israeli F-16 warplanes, Apache attack helicopters and artilleries unleashed premeditated and indiscriminate genocidal attacks on the densely populated and Israeli-occupied Gaza Strip. The aggression includes ground invasion, aerial and naval bombardment of the besieged Gaza using banned weapons such as cluster bombs, napalm-like white phosphorus bombs and new very high explosive weapons known as Dense Inert Metal Explosive (DIME), which cuts its victims to pieces and causes cancer in survivors”.
Gideon Levy of the Israeli daily Ha'aretz, writes
“Speaking to reporters on the steps of the Elise Palace in Paris, Tzipi Livni, Israel’s pathological liar, publicly declared that Israel intention is the total destruction of Gaza. Contradicting all the evidence of a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Livni declared: 'There is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza'."
Bombing Children in Schools
Around 900 Palestinians have been killed so far, a lot of them are children (about 37% according to Axis of Logic correspondent, Hiyam Noir in Gaza) and over 3000 have been injured so far. It is outrageous that President Obama can’t utter a single word from his mouth against brutal killing of at least 30 school children who were taking shelter in U.N school compound or the other hundreds of Palestinian children killed. Can you imagine the response of the U.S if some Muslim country bombed and killed U.S children? We can all imagine the consequences for that country.
Why would Israel target and drop bombs at a U.N school? Oh, maybe the intelligence was faulty. Just like when in 2006 U.S drone attack at Chingai village area of Bajaur tribal area of Pakistan resulted in 80 students being killed. What looked like a terrorist training camp to U.S intelligence experts and drone handlers was nothing more than a poverty bitten mud shackled rural school for children, who are only able to get basic Islamic education because of lack of main stream schools.
How did the U.S learn to go on a rampage of violence against weak oppositions? From the British, their previous occupiers or rulers, as the British call their status in continental United States. To expect that the U.S, Britain or Israel will stop this military adventurist mindset is naive to say the least. To think that the U.N would be able to stop Israel from killing civilians in Gaza is definitely living in fool’s paradise. Yes the U.N can allow tough sanctions against Muslim countries like it did against Iraq after the first Gulf War, during which at least 500,000 Iraqi children died. How many times did you watch that on CNN or Fox News? We should all recall the response of Madeline Albright who was U.S ambassador to the U.N at that time; she said in an interview in May 1996, that “we think that the price is worth it”. In order words, she meant that it’s ok if half million Iraqi children are dying as a direct result of U.N sanctions.
World Leaders
All this is just one side of the spectrum. The other side is equally ugly - that is the silence of the Muslim world leaders specially the Arab world. The harsh reality is that every single country in the Arab world and most of the Muslim world has either a corrupt King or a brutal dictator as a leader who enjoys awesome rapport with the U.S.
Hosni Mubarak: If there is ever a World award for the most obedient servant of the U.S it will definitely go to Hosni Mubarak the President of Egypt, the Grand puppet of all the American puppets in the Muslim World. He has been Egyptian president since 1981. How many times has the U.S asked Egypt for fair elections? U.S can’t afford to ask Egypt or other Muslim world to hold free and fair elections. The reason is because of its failed foreign policy. It has radicalized the people of the Muslim world to such an extent that any independent government would ask the U.S to remove its bases from its soil followed by other such demands which are not in the interest of the U.S hegemonic interests.
Egypt proved its loyalty again to the U.S and Israel by closing down Rafah border crossing and warning Iran not to interfere into Palestine issue since it was an Arab issue and not for non-Arabs to interfere. Since when did killing of Muslims become an Arab issue? This is against the very fundamental teachings of Islam which sees men in general and Muslims in particular all part of a big brotherhood or a fraternity. Who is Egypt fooling? Palestine is the area that has Jerusalem, which is the third holiest city of Islam and cherished by all Muslims throughout the world. The Palestine issue is the biggest issue for the entire Muslim world.
Arab Leaders: Most of the Arab world from U.A.E to Saudi Arabia are least bothered with this massacre for they are too busy bathing in their abundant oil wealth. They are too busy watching live coverage of Gulf Cup football tournament. It’s the most happening thing at the moment in the Gulf region and you have to be nuts to miss it. This is not the lowest ebb to which the Arab world governments have fallen I am sure the pit will become deeper to accommodate more depth for the falling pride of Arab world leaders.
President Hugo Chavez: They could all learn something from Hugo Chavez, Venezuelan president who sent Israeli Ambassador packing back to Tel Aviv due to their ungodly slaughter in Gaza.
Muslim Leaders: Sadly, there is nothing much at the moment that other Muslim countries can do for Palestine. The Muslim world’s 80 percent population is non-Arab. The bigger and more powerful Muslim countries are Pakistan, Turkey, Iran, Malaysia, and the most populated of all, Indonesia. These countries are the ones that must take on the role of Veto power states amongst the Muslim world. There exists an organization in the Muslim world which has been sidelined by the Arab world; it is Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC). The Arabs roam around in their own Arab League, and Gulf Cooperation Council, two utterly useless organizations that have not been able to solve any problems of the Arab world. The five mentioned countries need to get together revamp the OIC, take control of the OIC, and affairs of the Muslim world particularly the Arab World. In the past Egypt was kicked out and sidelined by the rest of the Muslim world because of its strong pro-U.S ties. The need of the hour is to revitalize OIC and restore some pride and sense of political direction into the Arab world.
The Need of the Hour
It’s a tough task for these countries to join hands and lead the Muslim world. But it is the need of the hour we can’t simple keep sitting and waiting for the U.N or EU to come to rescue us from Israel or whoever else the aggressor is. The lesson for the Arab world is that eventually they will run out of oil but even before that they will end up squandering their petro dollars. Hatred is equally distributed against the U.S foreign policy and the corrupt rulers of the Muslim world.
How long will the despot rulers of the Muslim world keep their Yankee governments alive? Only time will tell but the actions of U.S and Israel is radicalizing the populations of Muslim world. This should be alarming for the people of Europe and U.S and they must demand from their governments change in their policies towards the Muslims world. They must demand people to people contacts between the policy makers and the local populations. A U.S think tank expert who has never visited the Muslim world, who doesn’t know the ground realities, dictating policy to a puppet leader of a Muslim world, is only messing things up so badly that eventually it will be too late to fix them.
Conclusion: Bush and Obama
It is too early to suggest if President Obama will continue following the same policy that Bush was following. Bush's policy of rampage wars, mass murdering of civilians in the Muslim world came up with useful, mischievous words like ‘crusades’, ‘war on terror’, Islamo-fascist’, ‘axis of evil’, and ‘they hate our democracy’. In being a war president, as Bush used to call himself after 9/11, Bush jolted the U.S economy and that of the rest of the world. Obama now has a choice, either to let go of this legacy and build new bridges with the Muslim world or he can out flank Bush’s legacy and come up with better words for Muslim world, while sinking the U.S economy even further, making certain CEO’s of U.S military-industrial complex richer and making the Middle East more bloodier than it already is. The choice is his but the ripples will be felt all over the world.

Playing with Fire in Pakistan

While the U.S is facing an economic meltdown and people are hoping for better days under incoming President Obama, thousands of miles away in Pakistan things are going from bad to worst. Pakistan is always in the news in western media but unfortunately most of the news is extremely biased. The reports that emerge from Western think tanks on Pakistan are mostly one-sided and reflective of U.S Foreign Policy rather than independent analysis.
Changing relationships
Pakistan became a frontline ally of U.S after 9/11. Since then things have been moving in the wrong direction to say the least. Under Former President Musharraf, Pakistan started using its army against insurgents and Taliban sympathizers in Northern Tribal belt area of Pakistan, commonly known as FATA (federally administrated tribal areas). This resulted in a deadly wave of terrorism directed against Pakistani people and the army itself. Vast majority of the Pakistani public just like the majority of the Muslim world views U.S war on terror as a War against Islam.
The primary reason for this is that Muslim world does not see any justification for U.S troops to be stationed in almost all of the Middle East with few exceptions like Iran, and Syria. Secondly, Bush administrations’ lie that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction has proved to be a fatal blow for U.S image in the Muslim world. The common man on the street views U.S as an aggressor nation and compares U.S military adventurism in the Middle East with Imperial history of United Kingdom, and other European Nations. U.S public needs to realize that Muslim world was under colonial rule for the most part of the nineteenth century and early part of twentieth century, until the end of the Second World War; hence the public is extremely suspicious of U.S troop’s presence in Muslim world and U.S continued support of corrupt, incompetent rulers of the Muslim world.
The Schism: The people and the Zardari government
Pakistan is a country with 180 million people, nuclear weapons, and half million army. Pakistani population is turning against the Pakistani government which is seen as a spokesman of Washington D.C. To give the readers some idea of how the Pakistani population looks at this Zardari government I will quote some slogans and jargons that are used by the public in Pakistan. This government of President Zardari which the U.S is supporting just like they supported Ngo Dinh in South Vietnam is called “sellout to the CIA”, “mouth piece of the U.S”, “slaves of the Yankees”, and the harshest of all the slogans “Traitors”. This is the opinion of the common man on the streets of Pakistan against the current government. The International Republican Institute Survey on Pakistan that came out recently also reflects this trend. In the survey
* 88% of the Pakistani population thinks that the country is headed in the wrong direction.
* 59% think that the economic situation of the country will get worst. 76% think that the current government has performed poorly.
* 67% think that things will not get better under this “democratic” setup and lastly,
* 54% of the population thinks that peace deal with the extremist is a better option than the Army operation that is going on in FATA.
The U.S plans to neutralize Pakistan, as it has done so before with other countries. U.S officials are talking openly about disbanding Pakistan’s premier spy agency, the ISI; the U.S is constantly raising concern for the safety of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons and, the U.S wants to cut down Pakistan army into half, making it an effect counter-terrorism force from a professional army.
The U.S. historical treatment of its allies
Andrew G. Marshall is a Research Associate of the Centre for Research on Globalization (CRG). His recent article on Middle East and Pakistan gives us inside to the plan that will be executed under new U.S administration. Marshall’s article mentions that Pakistan is being destabilized under the same plan that was used to destabilize former Yugoslavia.
“As astonishing and outlandish as these claims may seem, the U.S has a long history of turning on its allies when they seek to become self-sufficient and developed, such as with Saddam Hussein and Iraq in the early 1990s. Also, it is vital to note the role of the IMF and World Bank in creating economic crises, and thus, political-social-ethnic instability, which invariably has led to all out ethnic war, genocides and international interventions [in countries such as Yugoslavia and Rwanda]".
Marshall notes that in 2008, “Pakistan was again seeking IMF help. On Nov. 25, it won final approval on a $7.6 billion loan package after foreign reserves shrank 74 percent to $3.5 billion in the 12 months ended on Nov. 8.” This loan was approved a day before the Mumbai attacks began. On December 4, it was reported that,
“Tough conditions of International Monetary Fund (IMF) have now started surfacing as IMF and the Government of Pakistan (GoP) agreed to discontinue oil import support, eliminate power subsidies and budgetary support of the government, public and private entities. IMF and GoP (government of Pakistan) have agreed to phase out the State Bank of Pakistan’s (SBPs) provision of foreign exchange for oil imports. … Further steps will be taken during the remainder of the fiscal year to strengthen tax enforcement. Moreover, fuel prices will continue to be adjusted to pass through changes in international prices … The program envisages a significant tightening of monetary policy.”
Winners and Losers
A similar plan was discussed by Lt. Col Ralph Peters, in a 2006 article of Armed Forces Journal. Peters argues that redrawing the map of Middle East is a must in order to control the strategic locations and assets of Middle East and Central Asia:
“Saudi Arabia would suffer as great a dismantling as Pakistan … Iran, a state with madcap boundaries, would lose a great deal of territory to Unified Azerbaijan, Free Kurdistan, the Arab Shia State and Free Baluchistan, but would gain the provinces around Herat in today’s Afghanistan … Pakistan’s Northwest Frontier tribes would be reunited with their Afghan brethren [and] “would also lose its Baluch territory to Free Baluchistan. The remaining ‘natural’ Pakistan would lie entirely east of the Indus, except for a westward spur near Karachi.”
Peters even made up a helpful little list of “losers” and “winners” in this new great game: as in, who gains territory, and who loses territory. Among the losers are Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, the West Bank and Pakistan. And Peters made the startling statement that redrawing borders is often only achieved through war and violence, and that “one other dirty little secret from 5,000 years of history: Ethnic cleansing works.”
U.S. Think Tanks Play With Fire
The problem with U.S think tanks and policy makers is that they have no connection with the common people of the country whose destiny they are trying to change. U.S is used to dealing with one dictator after another. First it was Pervaiz Musharraf, a military dictator who was in power obliging to U.S demands, now its Zardari, a civilian dictator who is trying his best to out flank Musharraf in serving U.S interest.
Destabilizing Pakistan is playing with fire. There is no guarantee that the Pakistani army will go all the way and give concessions to U.S and NATO while compromising Pakistan’s national interest. What happens if the U.S is successful in persuading Pakistani government to disband the ISI and cut down Pakistan army into half? We can recall what happened in Iraq after U.S disbanded the Iraqi army and Baath party infrastructure. Suddenly 300,000 men who were part of an army became mercenaries for hire. If Pakistan army is cut down into half and the ISI is disbanded then there will be no control over almost 400,000 men and they will readily work towards creating more trouble for U.S and NATO troops inside Afghanistan.
The dark possibility of a civil war inside Pakistan will remain if Pakistan is destabilized. Then there is the question of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons? Who will be able to guarantee their safety if Pakistan is destabilized further? As long as the Pakistan army is fully intact it will work with the U.S and NATO to safeguard U.S and Pakistan’s interests. Unfortunately U.S is pressuring Pakistan Army and ISI too much for their liking. At the moment it is not clear what the stance of the Pakistan Army will be in days to come. The army is also part of the nation, and their mood will be reflective of the mood of the nation. Already, the army has declined to accept pressure from the government of Pakistan on matters of National Security.
Pakistan and India
After the terrorist attack in Mumbai, India, tensions between India and Pakistan have increased tremendously. The Pakistan government is once again succumbing to Indian pressure and its response is seen by the Pakistani people as a weak response. Serious doubts are being raised by public about government’s ability to give a proper response to India. Every Pakistani citizen knows that India is their arch enemy. This opinion of India in the Pakistani mind cannot be changed by the sugar coated rhetoric of President Zardari or U.S Secretary of State.
The problem with Western experts on South Asia is that they don’t understand the dynamics of Pakistan-India conflict. The root cause of conflict between Pakistan and India is Kashmir. Without the resolution of this conflict permanent peace between India and Pakistan cannot be achieved. There is peace in Europe today because they have resolved their problems and disputes and their countries treat each other with equal respect. We should not to forget that two brutal world wars were fought in Europe that completely devastated Europe. After such devastation Europe got together and realized that mutual peace is must for coexistence. Peace between two countries can only be on equal terms. The U.S and Soviet Union were able to co-exist because both had nuclear weapons. If Pakistan is destabilized then it’s not possible that India will remain intact and enjoy exponential economic growth rates.
At the moment the biggest issue is tension between India and Pakistan. India is hoping that U.S will be able to pressurize the Pakistani government into allowing India to carry out “surgical strikes” inside Pakistan, just like the U.S drone attacks of this year. India wants to make sure that Pakistan will not respond to these strikes. This is definitely not acceptable to Pakistani army and the public. It might even be asking too much from already weak Zardari government. Already there is a rumor circulating in Islamabad that Prime Minister Yousuf Gillani will be replaced. Nawaz Sharif, two time former prime minister and leader of the opposition, is gearing up for an offensive against the government’s ongoing domestic and international policies.
If the Pakistan army has decided to respond to Indian surgical strikes and India has planned to carries out such strikes, then tensions between India and Pakistan can turn into a short term high intensity conflict or war. This will be a disaster for this region, U.S interest in this region, Middle East and the U.S economy. Bangalore, and Hyderabad, are silicon cities of India and top IT capitals of the world. India’s IT exports amount to more than $40 billion dollars, with U.S taking a market share of 60%. U.S will certainly not want a war between India and Pakistan that will jeopardize business between India and U.S. Lastly any full scale conflict between India and Pakistan will threaten this region with the potential use of nuclear weapons.
Conclusion
In the long run, U.S plans to disband ISI, cut down Pakistan army, and break Pakistan into smaller parts will only lead to more chaos in this region. Pakistan will become center of a brutal civil war. This will give considerable strength to Islamic militants who will have a free hand to fight openly against U.S/NATO forces and their pro-U.S Pakistani elements. For eight years the world has witnessed the dire consequences of the wrong policies of Neo-Cons. It is high time that new U.S administration changes track and returns to dialogue and peace process in the entire Middle East. Unless this happens, we are in for at least four more destructive years in Middle East and the populations of the U.S and Europe will pay dearly, at the very least in the economic costs of this destruction.

Among the losers are Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, the West Bank and Pakistan. And Peters made the startling statement that redrawing borders is often only achieved through war and violence, and that “one other dirty little secret from 5,000 years of history: Ethnic cleansing works.”
U.S. Think Tanks Play With Fire
The problem with U.S think tanks and policy makers is that they have no connection with the common people of the country whose destiny they are trying to change. U.S is used to dealing with one dictator after another. First it was Pervaiz Musharraf, a military dictator who was in power obliging to U.S demands, now its Zardari, a civilian dictator who is trying his best to out flank Musharraf in serving U.S interest.
Destabilizing Pakistan is playing with fire. There is no guarantee that the Pakistani army will go all the way and give concessions to U.S and NATO while compromising Pakistan’s national interest. What happens if the U.S is successful in persuading Pakistani government to disband the ISI and cut down Pakistan army into half? We can recall what happened in Iraq after U.S disbanded the Iraqi army and Baath party infrastructure. Suddenly 300,000 men who were part of an army became mercenaries for hire. If Pakistan army is cut down into half and the ISI is disbanded then there will be no control over almost 400,000 men and they will readily work towards creating more trouble for U.S and NATO troops inside Afghanistan.
The dark possibility of a civil war inside Pakistan will remain if Pakistan is destabilized. Then there is the question of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons? Who will be able to guarantee their safety if Pakistan is destabilized further? As long as the Pakistan army is fully intact it will work with the U.S and NATO to safeguard U.S and Pakistan’s interests. Unfortunately U.S is pressuring Pakistan Army and ISI too much for their liking. At the moment it is not clear what the stance of the Pakistan Army will be in days to come. The army is also part of the nation, and their mood will be reflective of the mood of the nation. Already, the army has declined to accept pressure from the government of Pakistan on matters of National Security.
Pakistan and India
After the terrorist attack in Mumbai, India, tensions between India and Pakistan have increased tremendously. The Pakistan government is once again succumbing to Indian pressure and its response is seen by the Pakistani people as a weak response. Serious doubts are being raised by public about government’s ability to give a proper response to India. Every Pakistani citizen knows that India is their arch enemy. This opinion of India in the Pakistani mind cannot be changed by the sugar coated rhetoric of President Zardari or U.S Secretary of State.
The problem with Western experts on South Asia is that they don’t understand the dynamics of Pakistan-India conflict. The root cause of conflict between Pakistan and India is Kashmir. Without the resolution of this conflict permanent peace between India and Pakistan cannot be achieved. There is peace in Europe today because they have resolved their problems and disputes and their countries treat each other with equal respect. We should not to forget that two brutal world wars were fought in Europe that completely devastated Europe. After such devastation Europe got together and realized that mutual peace is must for coexistence. Peace between two countries can only be on equal terms. The U.S and Soviet Union were able to co-exist because both had nuclear weapons. If Pakistan is destabilized then it’s not possible that India will remain intact and enjoy exponential economic growth rates.
At the moment the biggest issue is tension between India and Pakistan. India is hoping that U.S will be able to pressurize the Pakistani government into allowing India to carry out “surgical strikes” inside Pakistan, just like the U.S drone attacks of this year. India wants to make sure that Pakistan will not respond to these strikes. This is definitely not acceptable to Pakistani army and the public. It might even be asking too much from already weak Zardari government. Already there is a rumor circulating in Islamabad that Prime Minister Yousuf Gillani will be replaced. Nawaz Sharif, two time former prime minister and leader of the opposition, is gearing up for an offensive against the government’s ongoing domestic and international policies.
If the Pakistan army has decided to respond to Indian surgical strikes and India has planned to carries out such strikes, then tensions between India and Pakistan can turn into a short term high intensity conflict or war. This will be a disaster for this region, U.S interest in this region, Middle East and the U.S economy. Bangalore, and Hyderabad, are silicon cities of India and top IT capitals of the world. India’s IT exports amount to more than $40 billion dollars, with U.S taking a market share of 60%. U.S will certainly not want a war between India and Pakistan that will jeopardize business between India and U.S. Lastly any full scale conflict between India and Pakistan will threaten this region with the potential use of nuclear weapons.
Conclusion
In the long run, U.S plans to disband ISI, cut down Pakistan army, and break Pakistan into smaller parts will only lead to more chaos in this region. Pakistan will become center of a brutal civil war. This will give considerable strength to Islamic militants who will have a free hand to fight openly against U.S/NATO forces and their pro-U.S Pakistani elements. For eight years the world has witnessed the dire consequences of the wrong policies of Neo-Cons. It is high time that new U.S administration changes track and returns to dialogue and peace process in the entire Middle East. Unless this happens, we are in for at least four more destructive years in Middle East and the populations of the U.S and Europe will pay dearly, at the very least in the economic costs of this destruction.

U.S backed Israeli aggression on Gaza is self-defeating

In summer 2006 we saw Israeli forces pound South Lebanon under the pretext of destroying Hezbollah infrastructure and dislocating them from the area near Israeli border. That resulted in a stalemate after one month of fighting and resulted in hundreds of innocent civilian deaths in Lebanon. Now once again on the New Year’s Day of the Islamic (Lunar) calendar Israel attacked Gaza under the pretext of dismantling Hamas.
When Hamas was founded, it was seen as a threat to Yasser Arafat’s PLO. Over time PLO and its military wing Al-Fatah became proxies of U.S and Israel. When this happened people turned their attention towards Hamas. When elections were held in Palestine people voted for Hamas. As reported by Washington Post that Hamas claimed 76 of the 132 parliamentary seats in 2006. This was unacceptable to U.S and Israel. So now we have this horrific operation against Hamas.
Israel says that it is not against the people of Palestine but against Hamas but how does it expect that the Muslim world will buy this slogan? Maybe they don’t care about the Muslim world and why should they? When the corrupt leaders of the Muslim world remain muted at the Israeli atrocities in Gaza, why should the rest of the world be any different. The belligerent support of U.S for Israel has resulted in hatred for the U.S. throughout the Muslim world. Only the corrupt leaders of the Muslim world still maintain cozy feelings for the U.S leadership. Israel is a nation that was formed under the pretext of terrorist attacks against civilians. Irgun was a terrorist group that was founded by prominent Israeli leaders in 1930’s. According to John M. Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt, authors of bestselling book ‘The Israel Lobby’:
“It was the infamous Irgun, a militant Zionist group, who in the late 1937 introduced into Palestine the now-familiar practice of placing bombs in buses and large crowds. Between 1944 and 1947, several Zionist organizations used terrorist attacks to drive the British from Palestine and took the lives of many innocent civilians along the way. Israeli terrorists also murdered the UN mediator Count Folke Bernadotte in 1948, because they opposed his proposal to internationalize Jerusalem.”
Israel has maintained its terrorist nature throughout its history, deliberately targeting civilians. The U.S, UN and the rest of the world is watching as the carnage unfolds in Gaza. The U.S bias towards Israel is dangerously ugly. Perhaps U.S should explain as to why it must sell F-16’s, gunship apache helicopters, and other sophisticated weaponry to a country that has used it repeatedly against unarmed civilians including women and children. Renowned British writer Tariq Ali thinks that this campaign is to make sure that elections is Israel are won by hardliners:
“The dead Palestinians are little more than election fodder in a cynical contest between the Right and the Far Right in Israel. Washington and its EU allies, perfectly aware that Gaza was about to be assaulted, as in the case of Lebanon a few years, sit back and watch.”
Why must Israel deliberately hit targets in densely populated area? In his essay, Jewish Terrorism, Ghali Hassan, writing for Axis of Logic addresses this question,
“In order to inflict terror and maximum civilian casualties, the Israeli attacks begun during traffic police graduation ceremony and just as thousands of Palestinian school children were coming home from schools. Vital civilian infrastructures, including hospitals, mosques, houses, schools and universities, including women dormitories have been destroyed.”
This is not new. This has been happening in Palestine for the past few decades. Israel can attack civilian populations in Lebanon, Gaza or other parts of Palestine because it knows that it can get away with it. The U.S got away with invading Iraq under the fake pretext of weapons of mass destruction. When President Bush goes on American media and tells the U.S. nation that the "Islamic extremists and terrorists" hate us because they hate our freedom; they hate our democracy; they hate our way of life; these statements are nothing but complete divergence from the ground realities. Ground reality is that the Muslim world is sick and tired of Anglo-American interference and military adventurism in their backyards. I mentioned in my last article that colonization and neo-colonization of the Muslim world has been going on for the past century. The real causes of terrorism are not the misleading slogans that CNN, BBC or Fox News uses freely in their headline news. Robert Pape, University of Chicago professor of political science correctly stated:
“Beneath the religious rhetoric with which (such terror) is perpetrated, it occurs largely in the service of secular aims. Suicide terrorism is mainly a response to foreign occupation rather than a product of Islamic fundamentalism. Though it speaks of Americans as infidels, Al-Qaeda is less concerned with converting us to Islam than removing us from Arab and Muslim lands.”
As I have said before, U.S. support for Israel is seen as something evil in the Muslim world. Muslims around the world see helpless Palestinians getting bombed by U.S made F-16’s and other weaponry. These acts by Israel and U.S itself are the root cause of hatred against U.S and its allies in the Muslim world. The other biggest problem is that U.S government talks about bringing democracy to the Muslim world but at the same time it is happily supporting brutal dictators throughout the Muslim world. There are no backed Islamic countries where U.S has allowed free elections to take place. This might seem to be and exaggeration for some of the readers; nevertheles, it is a fact, the harsh reality. Stephen Kinzer’s book “Overthrown” is an eye opener for the people of U.S. and it should be mandatory text in public schools in the U.S. The U.S population needs to realize that constant wars by U.S, U.K, and Israel in Muslim world will only fuel more hatred and anger in the Muslim world against them. This is no way to successfully fight a war against terror. What the west is calling a "war on terror" is in reality, a war against Islam and Muslims.
If the U.S continues down this path, the time will soon come when people in different Muslim countries will revolt against their own corrupt governments, most of which are either dictators or kings. The last thing U.S will tolerate is a free and fair election in Islamic world because it will only bring hardliner nationalist parties into power who will neither allow the U.S to maintain military bases in their countries nor let IMF control their economies.
